Consumer confidence improved to 100.9 in February from 99.8

US consumer confidence continues to rise in February.

The US dollar index continues to move above the 99 level.

The University of Michigan survey of consumers revealed that the consumer confidence index in February improved to 100.9 (preliminary) from 99.8 in January. This reading came in higher than market expectations of 99.5.

Commenting on the data, “Early February gains were not uniform. However, current personal funds and assessments of the national economy recorded significant gains, while consumer opinions on the terms of purchase of household durable goods recorded a significant loss,” according to the surveys. Chief Economist, Richard Curtin. “The overall balance continues to drive confidence and expectations higher.”

The US Dollar Index largely ignored the data, and was last seen at 99.03, down 0.07% on the day.
